Frontline Visits and Assertion of Sovereign Control Over Strategic Resources

Niamey, November 13, 2025 - The final leg of President Tiani’s regional mission included high-stakes visits to some of Niger’s most sensitive security zones and economically strategic sites. At dawn on Friday, November 14, the Head of State traveled to Assamaka, the northern border town in Agadez Region that has suffered three attacks in less than a year. Arriving just one day after FDS units repelled another attempted incursion, President Tiani praised the courage and resilience of the troops stationed in this remote desert post and pledged reinforced logistical and operational support to secure the frontier.

Later that day, the President moved to Arlit for a landmark visit to the Société des Mines de l’Aïr (SOMAÏR). Standing at the heart of Niger’s uranium basin, he reaffirmed the irreversible nationalization of the mining site-a move he described as a cornerstone of Niger’s economic sovereignty. President Tiani declared that Niger would henceforth sell its uranium directly on the international market through “partners who respect the nation’s sovereignty,” underscoring a decisive shift toward state-controlled management of strategic natural resources.
