Four Patients Die in Fire at Masisi General Referral Hospital
Masisi, January 24, 2026 - A tragic fire at Masisi General Referral Hospital on the evening of January 19 claimed the lives of four patients, including three children, local medical sources confirmed.
According to authorities, the blaze was caused by an electrical malfunction. Hospital staff evacuated patients during the night as the fire spread. By the following morning, the hospital had reopened, allowing surviving patients to return to their wards.
The fire caused significant material damage, destroying the hospital’s garage and electrical system. Officials emphasized that the flames were contained before reaching inpatient wards, preventing further casualties.
An official investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.
