FARDC Soldier Arrested After Civilian Killed In Kwango

Popokabaka, August 18, 2026 - A Congolese army soldier was arrested in Popokabaka after being accused of killing a civilian with a bayonet, as the 11th military region reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct against the population.

Second-class soldier Bawile Kipoyo Zedoc, assigned to the 3rd company in Popokabaka, was detained on orders of interim regional commander Brigadier General Moyo Rabbi Richard. He is accused of killing Mukwabonika Jean at Inzofu village in the Yonso sector.

The soldier is to be transferred to the military auditor in Kikwit to face justice. Regional communication officials said the uniform must not shield criminal acts, citing recurring misconduct cases in the 11th military region.

The arrest matters for governance and investor confidence in western DRC, where military abuse cases can fuel local unrest and complicate security for transport and agricultural activity.
