Family Appeals for Intervention in Businessman’s Detention
Mauritania/Mali, February 26, 2026 - The family of Hamidou Olsan Diallo, a Mauritanian businessman, has issued an urgent appeal to Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug to intervene regarding his detention in Mali. Family sources report that Diallo, a resident of Lebheir (Barkéol district), was arrested by the Malian army in Héït three days ago and has had no contact since. According to the family, the Malian army is demanding one million CFA francs for his release, raising concerns over his safety and prompting calls for immediate diplomatic action.
