Explosion Kills Three and Injures Ten at Sange Market
Uvira Territory -, January 30, 2026 - An explosion killed three people and injured around ten others on Thursday, January 29, at a market in Sange, located in the Ruzizi Plain of South Kivu.
The blast occurred in the early evening, according to local and humanitarian sources. The injured were evacuated to Sange General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were recovered by their families.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially established.
Sange is considered a fallback area for AFC/M23 fighters following their withdrawal from the lakeside city of Uvira, adding to ongoing security concerns in the Ruzizi Plain.
