ESA Deepens Institutional Integration at High-Level Ministerial Session
OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso - November 26, 2025 - The Alliance of Sahel States (ESA) marked a major step forward in its regional integration project during an extensive ministerial coordination session that brought together the foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. The meeting was chaired by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso and current Chair of the ESA, and focused on accelerating the implementation of the confederation’s emerging institutional framework.
One of the most concrete outcomes of the session was the official signing of a memorandum of understanding establishing “ESA Confederation Radio.” The new media platform is envisioned as a strategic tool to counter what officials described as “external narrative dominance” and to strengthen cultural and information sovereignty across the Sahel.
Niger's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, said the project represents “a sovereign information space enabling the Sahelian peoples to express their own aspirations for development without external mediation.”
On the sidelines of the ministerial session, Minister Sangaré held in-depth bilateral talks with Dr. Khosravinejad Akba, Special Envoy of the Iranian Foreign Minister. Their two-hour meeting focused on technical cooperation in areas such as energy infrastructure, agricultural technology transfer, and pharmaceutical production capacity. Discussions also explored Iranian investment opportunities in Niger’s renewable energy sector, signaling growing interest in diversified partnerships.
