EACOP Nears Completion As Oil Developers Emphasize Environmental Restoration

Hoima, August 27, 2026 - Uganda's long-delayed oil ambitions moved closer to realization as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline passed 90 percent completion and project officials intensified environmental restoration work.

The pipeline is central to Uganda's plan to commercialize crude reserves after roughly two decades of preparation. Officials involved in the project said they expect oil to begin flowing before the end of the year.

The renewed focus on restoration comes as public attention centers on jobs, infrastructure and revenue from the oil sector. Environmental performance remains a key test for the project as construction advances across affected communities and ecosystems.
