DRC: Two Continental Resolutions Recognizing the Congolese Genocide Presented to the ECC
Kinshasa, November 20, 2025 - The Minister of Human Rights, Samuel Mbemba, formally presented two resolutions recognizing the genocide committed in the Democratic Republic of Congo to the President of the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC), Reverend André Bokundoa. The documents were issued by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and African civil society organizations.
Welcoming the ECC’s commitment to disseminating these texts nationwide, Mbemba described this step as a significant breakthrough in the struggle that has lasted more than three decades for the recognition of atrocities attributed to Rwanda.
The Minister highlighted that this achievement was made possible by the sustained advocacy of President Félix Tshisekedi and Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, whose efforts helped bring the issue to the forefront of continental institutions. He urged the Congolese population to rally behind this initiative so that the perpetrators and masterminds of the genocide are eventually held accountable.
