Kinshasa - December 17, 2025 - In response to the deteriorating security situation across the Democratic Republic of Congo, the National Assembly has launched a series of closed-door hearings with government and security officials, in line with Article 43 of its rules of procedure.

On December 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jacquemain Shabani was heard by the Defense and Security Committee, chaired by MP Rubens Mikindo. Lawmakers expressed deep concern over widespread insecurity, particularly in the eastern provinces, and sought to identify the root causes to formulate actionable proposals to restore peace and state authority.

The committee had previously heard from Minister of Defence Guy Kabongo Mwadianvita and announced that hearings with other security officials will continue in the coming days.
