Kinshasa, November 18, 2025 - The Democratic Republic of Congo currently hosts nearly 510,000 refugees, primarily from Rwanda and other Central African countries, Abdouraouf Gnon-Konde, Director of the UNHCR Regional Bureau, announced following a meeting with Prime Minister Judith Suminwa.

The UN agency, which also registers around 1.2 million Congolese refugees abroad, including 83,000 in Rwanda and over 600,000 in Uganda, intends to intensify programs facilitating the return, social, and economic reintegration of displaced populations. These efforts will be conducted in close coordination with the Congolese government and aligned with the existing legal framework governing refugee protection and reintegration.
