DRC-Egypt: Tshisekedi and al-Sisi Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Cairo, Egypt - Following his participation in the Paris conference on the humanitarian crisis in the Great Lakes region, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo arrived in Cairo on Friday, October 31, 2025, responding to an official invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The Congolese president was received with full honors at Cairo International Airport, reflecting the high diplomatic significance of the visit. Soon after his arrival, Tshisekedi held a series of in-depth talks with President al-Sisi at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, where both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Key topics on the agenda included enhancing cooperation across military, economic, and diplomatic sectors, as well as consolidating longstanding ties of friendship between the two nations. The leaders also discussed revitalizing existing partnership agreements, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable development, regional security, and economic integration within Africa.

This high-level visit is part of Kinshasa’s broader diplomatic strategy aimed at diversifying the DRC’s regional alliances and increasing its influence on the continental stage. Officials noted that the engagement with Egypt could pave the way for joint initiatives in trade, infrastructure development, and security cooperation, signaling a deepening of strategic ties between the two countries.

President Tshisekedi’s itinerary also includes bilateral meetings with Egyptian ministers and business leaders to explore investment opportunities and collaborative projects that could support the DRC’s economic growth and regional integration efforts.
