DRC Competition Commission strengthens capacity to regulate markets and curb

Kinshasa, March 27, 2026 - The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Competition Commission (COMCO) has held a two-day training workshop aimed at strengthening institutional capacity to enforce competition law and improve market regulation.

The session, held at the Novotel Kinshasa under the high patronage of Deputy Prime Minister for National Economy Daniel Mukoko Samba, was organized with technical support from European Union experts.

It brought together COMCO staff and other stakeholders involved in the enforcement of competition policy in the country, where regulatory frameworks remain in a consolidation phase.

Participants were trained on key aspects of competition law, including the identification of monopolies, cartels, barriers to market entry, abuse of dominant positions, and illicit exchange of sensitive corporate information.

The workshop also focused on ex-ante regulatory mechanisms designed to prevent market distortions before they occur, particularly in sectors affected by mergers and acquisitions.

Officials said the training combined theoretical instruction with practical case studies to strengthen analytical and enforcement skills, while encouraging exchanges of best practices among participants.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote a transparent and competitive economic environment in the Democratic Republic of Congo by reinforcing institutional oversight and improving the application of competition law.
