DRC-Belgium: Kinshasa and Brussels Strengthen Military Cooperation

Kinshasa, December 1, 2025 - Kinshasa - The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Belgium agreed to consolidate their military partnership during a meeting on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Kinshasa. The talks involved Congolese Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita and his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken, accompanied by their respective chiefs of staff.

The two countries committed to intensifying collaboration in training, operational support, medical cooperation, and capacity building for the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). The DRC also plans to appoint a defense attaché in Brussels in the near future.

Emphasizing Belgian support for security challenges in eastern DRC, Francken highlighted his government's commitment to developing cooperation, including through an increase in the defense budget.

The delegations later inspected joint European Union projects in Kindu, including the construction of a logistics complex, a brigade headquarters, and the reconstruction of the garrison military hospital, noting rapid progress on the works.
