DRC And Central African Republic Sign Defense Cooperation Deals

By Amina Kabasele3 min read

Kinshasa, August 21, 2026 - The DRC and the Central African Republic signed memoranda of understanding on military training and intelligence cooperation, strengthening bilateral security ties along a sensitive shared border.

The agreements were signed at the Defense Ministry during CHESD events. CAR Defense Minister Rameaux-Claude Bireau said his country would never serve as a rear base for action against the DRC and emphasized border security and intelligence exchange.

DRC Defense Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita presented the cooperation as part of a collective security response to transnational threats. For Kinshasa, the accords support efforts to prevent armed groups from exploiting cross-border space and to reinforce regional defense coordination.
