Djiboutian Scientific Talent Honored During International Alumni Day
Djibouti City, July 5, 2026 - Djibouti celebrated scientific excellence and academic achievement during the fourth edition of International Alumni Day for French Higher Education, an event that highlighted the accomplishments of Djiboutian graduates trained in France and their growing contribution to research, innovation, and national development. Held at the French Institute of Djibouti, the gathering brought together students, researchers, professionals, and alumni under the theme "Scientific Talents: Discover, Innovate, Undertake." The event provided a platform for dialogue between experienced scientists and aspiring students while showcasing the professional and entrepreneurial achievements of former graduates of French universities. Organizers described the initiative as an opportunity to make scientific careers more accessible and to encourage exchanges between academia and society. Beyond celebrating individual success stories, the event also promoted networking, mentorship, and international collaboration among alumni and future graduates. Djibouti continues to encourage the return and professional integration of graduates educated abroad, viewing them as important contributors to the country's economic, scientific, and technological development. Their expertise is increasingly recognized as a valuable asset in supporting innovation and strengthening national institutions. Academic cooperation between Djibouti and France also remained at the center of the discussions. More than 900 Djiboutian students are currently pursuing higher education in France with academic support services, reflecting the sustained educational partnership between the two countries. Long-standing collaborations between the University of Djibouti and several French universities continue to expand opportunities for research, student mobility, and academic exchange. Speakers emphasized that Djiboutian graduates trained in France play an important role beyond academia, contributing to entrepreneurship, public service, and scientific research while serving as ambassadors of knowledge and innovation within their communities. The event also highlighted the growth of the international alumni community of French higher education, which now connects more than 530,000 members and 5,500 partner organizations across 137 countries, creating a global network that facilitates professional cooperation and knowledge sharing. One of the day's highlights was a panel discussion featuring young scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs who shared their academic journeys, professional experiences, and the challenges they overcame to build successful careers. Their testimonies offered practical guidance and inspiration to students considering higher education opportunities in France. The discussions continued through information sessions and direct exchanges between alumni and prospective students, strengthening mentorship opportunities and encouraging new academic and professional partnerships. The celebration concluded with a reception that provided participants with an informal setting to continue networking, marking the occasion as both a tribute to academic excellence and a symbol of the enduring educational and cultural ties between Djibouti and France.
