Djiboutian Diaspora in Belgium Celebrates Independence with Unity

BRUSSELS, July 2, 2026 - Djibouti's diaspora in Belgium commemorated the 49th anniversary of the country's independence with a series of events celebrating national unity, cultural heritage, sporting excellence, and the achievements of Djiboutians living abroad, while looking ahead to the nation's golden jubilee in 2027. The celebrations, organized by Djibouti's embassy in Belgium, the European Union, and the Benelux countries, brought together nearly 1,200 members of the Djiboutian community from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and neighboring countries for a patriotic gathering in Brussels. The anniversary events united multiple generations of the diaspora, with families, young people, and elders participating in cultural performances, patriotic ceremonies, and community activities that highlighted their continued ties to their homeland.
