Director of NI & P Company Ltd hunted for illegal ethanol trading

Kigali, October 28, 2025 - KIGALI - Nizeyuhoraha Pierre, Director of NI & P Company Ltd, is being pursued by Rwandan authorities for allegedly trading ethanol illegally, following the release of findings from ‘Operation Usalama’, a multi-agency crackdown on illicit business practices.

Although NI & P Company Ltd held a license to sell ethanol, regulations require it to be sold only to authorized users. Investigators found that the company had violated these rules, distributing the substance to unlicensed buyers. Ethanol, a raw material used in brewing, was reportedly diverted to produce substandard alcoholic beverages, locally known as ‘ibyuma’ and ‘ibuye’, in Nyabihu District.

Dr. Murangira B. Thierry, spokesperson for the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), warned of the dangers posed by improperly stored ethanol. “This company was found to be in possession of ethanol stored illegally, which could endanger local residents,” he said.

The investigation revealed that Nizeyuhoraha, aware that he was being sought, fled and is currently evading justice. Dr. Murangira appealed to the public for assistance, stating, “Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Pierre Nizeyuhoraha should immediately inform the Police or RIB. Pierre himself is urged to come forward and answer questions regarding these allegations. Remaining in hiding will not prevent justice from reaching him.”

Authorities continue to investigate the case, emphasizing the importance of curbing illegal ethanol distribution to protect public safety.
