Detained Former RSF Commander Hospitalized In Omdurman

Omdurman, August 10, 2026 - Former Rapid Support Forces commander Lieutenant General Ali Al-Naseeh Al-Qala was transferred to the Military Medical Hospital in Omdurman after a severe health setback in detention, his family said. Al-Qala, a former Sudanese army officer who helped found the RSF and previously served as its head of operations, was arrested by military intelligence on January 25, 2025, after army forces regained control of the Al-Jaili oil refinery north of Khartoum.

His family said he had suffered shortness of breath and mobility problems for more than a week before being moved, and alleged that military intelligence delayed medical care. They said this was his third hospitalization since arrest, following a heart condition requiring catheterization and severe anaemia they attributed to malnutrition in custody.

The family said Al-Qala has not faced formal charges or appeared in court, and held army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan responsible for his safety. Sudan's military and military intelligence have not publicly commented on his health or the grounds for his detention.
