Deepen Investment Ties as Chinese Delegation Explores Coffee

Kampala, April 19, 2026 - Uganda, China April 13, 2026 - A high-level Chinese business delegation is currently in Uganda to explore investment opportunities in coffee production, industrial infrastructure, and tourism, as Kampala strengthens its economic partnership with China.

The visit forms part of the Uganda-China Coffee Investment and Destination Tour 2026, a coordinated initiative aimed at expanding trade, investment flows, and market linkages between the two countries. The delegation arrived this week and will remain in Uganda from April 10 to 23, 2026.

The mission is being facilitated by Uganda’s diplomatic missions in Beijing and Guangzhou, and brings together representatives from several major Chinese companies, including firms operating in manufacturing, infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism.

During their stay, investors are expected to tour key industrial zones such as the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, Liao Shen Industrial Park, and Namanve Industrial Park, where they will assess potential opportunities in manufacturing, infrastructure development, and export-oriented production.

A central focus of the visit is Uganda’s coffee sector, one of the country’s top foreign exchange earners. Delegates will engage directly with producers at the Ankole Coffee Producers Cooperative Union and visit a coffee processing facility in Bushenyi to observe the full value chain from production to export.

The programme also includes an extensive tourism component designed to showcase Uganda’s natural attractions. The delegation is scheduled to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park, and the Source of the Nile, highlighting the country’s biodiversity and tourism potential.

Officials say the combined investment and tourism exposure is intended to position Uganda as a competitive destination for both foreign direct investment and international tourism, particularly targeting Asian markets.

The Uganda-China Coffee Investment and Destination Tour reflects broader efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation in agro-industrialisation, tourism development, mineral-based industrialisation, and science and technology.

Government authorities in Kampala say the initiative is expected to enhance market access for Ugandan exports, attract new investment inflows, and strengthen long-term economic cooperation between Uganda and China.
