Court Hears Boda Riders Were Discussed In Alleged Coup Plot

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Kampala, August 27, 2026 - A treason trial heard that boda boda riders were described as expendable participants during an alleged plot to overthrow the government, underscoring the political sensitivity of proceedings tied to claims of state destabilization.

Andrew Wilson, also known as Orlando, has been testifying for more than a week. He told court that a second meeting focused on plans linked to the alleged overthrow of the government and an assassination plot.

A recording lasting more than two hours was played in court, though parts of it were unclear. The audio captured a voice identified in court as that of an opposition politician recounting alleged backing from officers.

The case remains nationally significant because it links opposition politics, alleged military support and internal security concerns in a proceeding that could carry wider implications for Uganda's political climate.
