Court Hears Audio And Video Evidence In Besigye Treason Case

By Amina Kabasele3 min read

Kampala, August 24, 2026 - Prosecutors tendered audio and video clips in the treason case against jailed opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye, a politically sensitive trial with implications for Uganda's rule-of-law environment.

The material was presented before Criminal Division Judge Emmanuel Baguma and included recordings from meetings held outside Uganda where Besigye and others were allegedly involved in plotting to overthrow the government.

The clips, some of them unclear, were played in court as the prosecution sought to advance its case.

The proceedings remain nationally consequential because they involve a leading opposition figure and will be closely watched for signals on judicial independence and political risk.
