Congolese Official Elected To ICGLR Programme Post

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Bujumbura, August 1, 2026 - A selection jury in Bujumbura chose Congolese official Mazita Bovy Héritier as Deputy Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, a role focused mainly on managing regional programmes and projects.

Héritier currently serves as a director at the Service d'Assistance et d'Encadrement du Small Scale Mining. The appointment comes while the Democratic Republic of the Congo holds the ICGLR presidency for 2025-2027, giving Kinshasa added visibility in a body centered on peace, security and development in the Great Lakes region.

The post has political relevance for the DRC because ICGLR programmes cover cross-border cooperation tools used by member states on security, development and resource governance. Héritier's mining-sector background also aligns with Kinshasa's wider push to link regional stability with stronger oversight of natural-resource economies.
