“Congo First” Advocates for International Criminal Tribunal to Address Decades of Crimes

Kinshasa, February 12, 2026 - The political platform “Congo First” (Le Congo d’Abord) has called for the establishment of an International Criminal Tribunal in the DRC to ensure that perpetrators of unlawful acts are held accountable.

During the official presentation of the political group on Thursday, coordinator Toussaint Alonga emphasized the need to try those responsible for crimes committed over the past 30 years in the country.

The platform aims to promote values such as goodness, truth, justice, and good governance, while encouraging the exchange of ideas and empowering proposals for the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Alonga noted that the tribunal would help end the cycle of violence that has characterized the DRC’s political life, including elections, disputes, rebellions, dialogues, and governments of national unity.

He further stated that the Head of State’s openness to inclusive dialogue continues existing peace efforts, aiming to reach a consensus on governance reforms, restore national cohesion, and strengthen national unity.

“National cohesion and national unity secure the strategic partnership between the DRC and the USA. Inclusive dialogue, being an extra-constitutional political process, can only be achieved through consensus among actors to reach a lasting solution,” Alonga added.
