Community Policing Initiative Launched in Koira Tagui
Niamey, December 11, 2025 - The police station in Francophonie Village conducted its first awareness session on Thursday for the 24 neighborhood chiefs of Koira Tagui, marking the beginning of direct collaboration between local leaders and law enforcement.
This initiative is part of the Republic’s security reform and the implementation of participatory security governance. It aligns with community policing principles, emphasizing security built in partnership with local communities.
The session aimed to raise awareness among chiefs about the fundamental missions of the police, including crime prevention, public order maintenance, investigations, traffic control, road safety, victim support, and civic education.
Officials described the session as a strategy for participatory governance, combining state authority with the legitimacy of traditional leaders. Its goal is to strengthen social cohesion, preserve neighborhood peace, and foster harmonious community development.
This framework is designed to maintain ongoing communication between the police and traditional authorities, build community trust, prevent conflicts, and jointly develop security responses adapted to local traditions and existing laws.
