Kinshasa, February 8, 2026 - The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has published the electoral calendar for the election of the governor and vice-governor of Sankuru province, on Thursday, January 29.
The schedule outlines all stages of the process, from technical preparations to the announcement of provisional results.
Key Stages of the Electoral Process
The timeline runs from January 28 to March 24:
January 28 - February 3: Technical preparations, staff training, and establishment of the Candidate Reception and Processing Office (BRTC)
February 4 - 10: Submission of candidacies to the Provincial Executive Secretariat in Lusambo
February 19: Publication of the provisional list of candidates
March 2 - 6: Filing of appeals with the Sankuru Court of Appeal
March 9: Publication of the final list
March 20 - 22: Election campaign
March 24: Voting by provincial deputies
March 24: Proclamation of provisional results by the Plenary Assembly
This election is being held in a sensitive political context. The outgoing governor, Victor Kitenge, was removed from office on May 26 by the Provincial Assembly, which accused him of mismanagement, particularly regarding security, and of refusing to respond to parliamentary summons.
