Campaign launched for release of detained Sudanese lawyer

Khartoum, 10 May 2026 - Human rights groups and civil society actors have launched a campaign calling for the release of a Sudanese lawyer who has been held in detention for one year, amid growing concerns over arbitrary arrests linked to the country’s ongoing conflict.

The campaign highlights the lawyer’s prolonged detention without trial and calls for urgent legal and humanitarian intervention, arguing that the continued imprisonment reflects a broader pattern of restrictions on legal professionals and civil liberties during the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Activists involved in the initiative say the case underscores increasing pressure on the judiciary and legal defenders, who have faced intimidation, arrest, and limited access to due process since the outbreak of fighting in April 2023.

The campaign has urged both national authorities and international organizations to intervene, demanding respect for legal protections and the immediate release of individuals detained without formal charges.
