Burkina Faso Strengthens Conflict Prevention Through UNOPREGEC National Convention

Ouagadougou, December 19, 2025 - The 2025 Ordinary Statutory Session of the National Council of the National Observatory for Prevention and Community Conflict Management (ONAPREGECC) took place today in Ouagadougou.

Chaired by Minister of Justice Edasso Rodrigue Bayala and co-chaired by Chief of Staff Bépoadi Sinini, the session gathered statutory members, directors of regional observatories, and technical and financial partners.

The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the national conflict prevention mechanism and analyze trends in community conflicts amid a challenging security and social context.

In his opening remarks, the Minister’s representative highlighted ONAPREGECC’s strategic role as a national early warning and mediation system, supporting communities in preventing and peacefully resolving conflicts. He praised the resilience of the population, the dedication of local actors, and the bravery of the Defense and Security Forces and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, stressing that resilience must be actively nurtured.

The results presented were encouraging: 561 community conflicts were reported, with 345 resolved by September 30, 2025, reflecting the increasing effectiveness of ONAPREGECC’s regional branches.

The National Council approved the 2025 activity report, reviewed the implementation of 2024 recommendations, and built on lessons learned from successful mediations.

This session underscores Burkina Faso’s commitment to strengthening local conflict governance, consolidating early warning mechanisms, and promoting inclusive, sustainable solutions, contributing to social cohesion and lasting peace.
