Burkina Faso Hosts Second Press and Diplomacy Day to Engage Media on Foreign Policy Challenges

Ouagadougou, December 12, 2025 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and the Burkinabè Diaspora on Friday held the second edition of Press and Diplomacy Day, aimed at strengthening journalists’ understanding of the strategic challenges and choices shaping Burkina Faso’s diplomacy.

Organized through the Directorate of Communication and Press Relations (DCRP), the event brought together media professionals in Ouagadougou to discuss key diplomatic issues in a context marked by security challenges and shifting geopolitical alignments.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yiriguoin Hermann Toe, who underscored the central role of the media in explaining and contextualizing the country’s diplomatic orientation.

The discussions focused on several themes, including the dynamics and prospects of the AES, the outcomes of efforts to diversify Burkina Faso’s international partners, and the role of the Burkinabè diaspora in national development. According to organizers, these exchanges were intended to help journalists better grasp the diplomatic implications of political decisions taken to assert national sovereignty and preserve the dignity of the population.

“For these choices to be accepted, information must be accurate, clear, and accessible. That is the true nobility of your mission as journalists,” Ambassador Toe said in his opening address.

He added that the objective of the initiative is to help foster “an informed, lucid, and constructive public opinion,” which he described as essential to the country’s transformation, in line with the vision of President Ibrahim Traoré.

For her part, Ms. Wendata Nathalie Kaoré, Director of Communication and Press Relations, said the Press and Diplomacy Day also serves as a platform to strengthen cooperation between diplomatic actors and the national media. She expressed hope that the exchanges would encourage greater media engagement in supporting the ministry’s diplomatic actions.

The second edition of the event was also marked by direct exchanges between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, and journalists, providing an opportunity for open dialogue on Burkina Faso’s foreign policy priorities.
