Burkina Faso Begins Drafting New National Development Plan 2026-2030

Ouagadougou, December 12, 2025 - The Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Vieux Abdoul Rachid Soulama, chaired a meeting of the technical committee responsible for developing Burkina Faso’s National Development Plan 2026-2030 on Friday.

The session brought together secretaries general from various ministries and several observer members to review the preliminary draft of the plan. This process follows an extensive period of data collection, analysis, and nationwide consultations, which laid the groundwork for the country’s next five-year planning framework.

The exercise is particularly timely, as the National Development Plan 2021-2025 is set to expire at the end of the year. Under the law governing development planning, a new national framework must be prepared every five years, taking into account Burkina Faso’s current context, which is shaped by the challenges of sovereignty, resilience, and endogenous development promoted by the People’s Progressive Revolution (RPP).

The technical committee, led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is tasked with reviewing and refining the draft before submitting it to the Steering and Monitoring Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister. During the meeting, participants provided feedback and proposed adjustments to the tools, mechanisms, and implementation strategies of the future plan.

The preliminary draft outlines an ambitious vision to make Burkina Faso a sovereign and prosperous nation grounded in sustainable development and its own national strengths. The central objective of the 2026-2030 plan is to promote inclusive economic and social progress, underpinned by patriotism, national sovereignty, and a climate of peace.
