Burhan Receives New Envoys In Khartoum In Stability Signal

Khartoum, August 13, 2026 - Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan received the credentials of new ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the Republican Palace in Khartoum, the first such ceremony he has held at the site since the war began in April 2023. The event was intended to signal a gradual return of state functions to the capital, even as sporadic drone attacks by the rival Rapid Support Forces continue to threaten security.

Saudi Arabia's new ambassador, Zaid bin Makhlad bin Zaid Al-Harbi, succeeded Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, who had served in Khartoum since November 2016. Al-Harbi emphasized Riyadh's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and supporting Sudanese stability. Burhan also accepted credentials from Somalia's Ahmed Jama Omar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Wabenga Kalebo Theo.

Somalia reiterated support for Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while the Congolese envoy pledged to develop bilateral relations and support peace efforts.
