Besigye Treason Trial Hears Claims Of State House Surveillance Plot

Kampala, August 28, 2026 - A witness in the treason trial of opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye told court that two men were expected to camp in Entebbe and conduct surveillance around State House, deepening a politically sensitive case involving alleged threats to President Yoweri Museveni.

Andrew Wilson, also known as Orlando, has testified for more than a week in proceedings centered on alleged plotting against the government. Court also heard recordings lasting more than two hours, though parts were unclear.

The recordings captured a voice identified as Besigye recounting alleged backing from officers. Wilson also told court that discussions in the recorded meeting concerned an assassination plot and alleged information on Museveni's movements.

Wilson further said Kenyan police allegedly seized recording devices after a November 2024 abduction. The case remains nationally significant because it involves a leading opposition figure, security allegations around the presidency, and the credibility of judicial proceedings ahead of future political contests.
