Bamako Military Prosecutor Announces Investigation Into April 25 Attacks

BAMAKO, May 1, 2026 - The Public Prosecutor at the Bamako Military Court has announced the opening of a formal investigation into the coordinated terrorist attacks that took place on April 25, 2026, targeting multiple military and security positions across Mali, including Bamako, Kati, and the residence of the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

In a statement, the military prosecution office said that ongoing investigations have, at this stage, uncovered what it described as “solid evidence” indicating the involvement of certain military personnel, including both active-duty and discharged soldiers, in the planning, coordination, and execution of the attacks.

The statement also alleges the involvement of political figures, including Dr. Oumar Mariko, in connection with the case, alongside individuals identified as suspected accomplices within and outside the armed forces.

Among those named in the investigation is Alassane Diallo, also known as Abedi, a discharged soldier who reportedly died during the clashes in Kati. Other individuals listed as suspected co-perpetrators include Sergeant Diakaridia Sodio, Warrant Officer Moussa Diane, Chief Warrant Officer Mamadou Keita, all active-duty personnel, as well as retired soldier Soïba Diarra.

Authorities confirmed that initial arrests have already been carried out, while further suspects are actively being sought as part of the ongoing operation.

The military prosecutor praised the work of investigative and security units, stating that the inquiry will continue in strict accordance with legal procedures. Officials added that further updates will be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
