Bamako High Court Opens Criminal Session with Eight Major Cases on Docket

Bamako, June 25, 2026 - The High Court of Bamako's 1st District officially opened its criminal session, bringing together senior judicial and administrative officials for the formal commencement of proceedings involving several serious criminal cases.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Ministry of Justice's Secretary General, Dr. Boubacar Sidiki Diarrah, Chief of Staff Bakary Soliba Coulibaly, and other judicial and administrative authorities.

According to court officials, the session will examine eight cases involving 11 defendants facing charges that include criminal conspiracy, rape, child sexual abuse, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping.

During the opening proceedings, the Public Prosecutor's Office emphasized the role of the justice system in preserving social cohesion, describing criminal justice as both a preventive mechanism against crime and a means of protecting society through the rule of law.

The criminal session marks the beginning of hearings on some of the most serious offenses before the High Court as Mali continues efforts to strengthen the functioning of its judicial system.
