Bamako Faces Fluctuating Fuel Shortages Amid Security Challenges

By Amina Kabasele2 min readFrançais

Bamako, December 15-21, 2025 - Fuel supplies in Bamako remain unstable due to road insecurity, disrupting tanker transport. According to CECOGEC, the situation has slightly slowed economic activity, worsened by JNIM attacks since December 6, despite a temporary resumption of deliveries.

The crisis is impacting the daily economy by raising transport costs and affecting productive sectors. On the positive side, it highlights the resilience of alternative supply chains. However, without sustainable road security measures, it risks exacerbating inflation and hindering growth, particularly amid ongoing efforts to diversify energy partnerships within the ESA.
