AU Special Representative Meets Malian Foreign Minister to Strengthen CooperationBamako, Mali - November 17, 2025

Dr. Mamadou Tangara, the newly appointed Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of the AU Mission for Mali and the Sahel (MISAHEL), was received on Monday, November 17, 2025, by His Excellency Abdoulaye Diop, Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as part of the presentation of his credentials.

During the meeting, Minister Diop and Dr. Tangara reviewed key areas of cooperation between Mali and the African Union, considering both national partnerships and the broader confederal dimension in light of evolving sub-regional geopolitical realities.

Minister Diop welcomed the AU’s constructive approach to dialogue and reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to Pan-Africanism. He highlighted the need for partners to take into account Mali’s current situation and stressed the importance of fostering a sincere, frank, and constructive dialogue to strengthen African solidarity amid global challenges affecting the region.

Dr. Tangara, in turn, assured that the African Union would actively contribute to solutions in Mali, expressing his commitment to strengthening the partnership and addressing ongoing challenges while respecting Mali’s principles and interests. He emphasized his personal attachment to the country and his dedication to supporting its stability and development.
