Around 850 Congolese Refugees Receive Humanitarian Aid in Rumonge, Burundi
Rumonge, Burundi | December 2025 A total of 846 Congolese refugees residing in the Rumonge camp in Burundi received humanitarian aid, including food and non-food items, on Thursday. Most of the refugees originate from Uvira, while others fled from Fizi and Baraka, according to camp officials. The aid, provided by private donors, is described by recipients as a lifeline amid difficult living conditions. Mapenzi Manyebwa, president of the Congolese refugees in Rumonge, expressed gratitude to the benefactors and called on the DRC government to emulate such support. “We have been here in Rumonge for two weeks, after leaving the territories and cities of Uvira, Fizi, and Baraka. Here, we are starting to receive assistance from local associations and some national members of parliament,” Manyebwa said. He specifically mentioned MP Justin Bitawira, who donated 140 bags of cornmeal, 1,740 kg of beans, 10 jerrycans of palm oil, 100 tarpaulins, and soap to the camp. The distribution reached 846 registered households, providing essential relief to the refugee population. “We thank these leaders who continue to think about our difficulties, because we live in such challenging conditions here in Rumonge,” Manyebwa added.
