Fizi, Monday, January 12, 2026 - Another boat navigating Lake Tanganyika was intercepted on Sunday, January 11, by the FARDC and the Wazalendo in Fizi, South Kivu. The vessel, Super Bus, was reportedly en route to Bujumbura for repairs. A patrol stopped the boat shortly after it departed from the private port of Kivovo, with 12 crew members on board. It was intercepted by army maritime services and the Wazalendo while patrolling near Makobola. This interception comes just days after another vessel, Okako 2, was stopped in the village of Mizimu, also in Fizi territory. Since the capture of Uvira by AFC/M23 rebels, several measures have been implemented to restrict movement in the region, including a ban on traffic between South Kivu and Tanganyika Province via Lake Tanganyika. In the context of the ongoing conflict between AFC/M23 rebels and the Congolese army, any vessel operating on Lake Tanganyika is now treated with heightened suspicion.
