Bamako, November 14, 2025 - Amid persistent deterioration of the security situation, France is reducing its diplomatic staff in Mali, following similar measures by the United States and the United Kingdom, which have already repatriated their non-essential personnel. French authorities strongly recommend temporary departure for French nationals and discourage all travel to the country.

Mali continues to face frequent attacks from JNIM (affiliated with AQIM) and the Islamic State, further exacerbating insecurity in both rural areas and along key strategic routes. These conditions have made diplomatic and humanitarian operations increasingly difficult.

The ongoing fuel blockade has triggered significant economic hardship, with multiple cities experiencing prolonged shortages that disrupt daily life and fuel social tensions. This economic strain, combined with direct threats against civilians and business operators, has intensified the climate of insecurity.

JNIM has threatened to classify truck drivers as combatants and urged NGOs, businesses, and associations to oppose the Malian transitional authorities. While some fuel deliveries have reached Bamako, the situation remains critical, with the potential to worsen rapidly if no immediate solutions are implemented.
