Algeria Urges Inclusive Political Solution as Mali Faces Escalating Terror ThreatsAlgeria, November 18, 2025

Bamako, November 11, 2025 - Algerian Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, has issued a stark warning regarding the deteriorating situation in Mali, emphasizing that the current surge in terrorist threats carries unpredictable consequences for the entire Sahel-Saharan region. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Minister Attaf recalled that Algeria had anticipated these developments nearly two years ago, when “the Malian authorities unilaterally denounced the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation stemming from the Algiers process.”

Attaf stressed that Algeria’s approach to security and stability is comprehensive and cooperative, rather than isolated or self-serving. “The current situation in Mali, with a resurgence of terrorist threats reaching unprecedented levels, concerns and worries us more than anyone else,” he said, citing both geographical proximity and Algeria’s historical commitment to supporting Mali through crises since its independence.

He reaffirmed Algeria’s long-standing support for Mali’s territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty, stating:"Algeria has always been, and remains, one of the most fervent defenders and supporters of preserving the unity of the Malian state, its territory, its people, and its institutions. We affirm Mali’s full, complete, and uncompromising sovereignty."

Recalling a statement from January 26, 2024, Attaf warned that “the military option constitutes the first and greatest threat to the unity of Mali and the integrity of its territory, as it carries within it the seeds of civil war, while undermining national reconciliation efforts and posing a real threat to regional security and stability.” He noted that current events in Mali confirm these earlier predictions.

The Algerian minister underscored that the Malian crisis cannot be resolved through military means or exclusionary approaches. He called for:

Responsible dialogue and comprehensive reconciliation among all Malian citizens, without discrimination or foreign interference;

Recognition that national unity is the only path to confront terrorism effectively and address broader regional security challenges.

Concluding his remarks, Attaf reiterated Algeria’s commitment to its neighbor: “We remain open to our brothers in Mali, exercising inexhaustible patience to address the current crises in our neighborhood with wisdom, serenity, and discernment.”
