AFDC National Vice-President and Four Colleagues Arrested at Ngobila Beach

KINSHASA, May 9, 2026 - The Alliance of Democratic Forces of Congo (AFDC), led by Senator Modeste Bahati, has condemned the arrest of its National Vice-President, Hilaire Kasusa Kikobya, along with four of his colleagues at Ngobila Beach in Kinshasa.

According to information released by the party, Hilaire Kasusa Kikobya, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of INERA, was returning from an official mission to Brazzaville when he was apprehended.

Among those arrested were lawyer Jean-Claude Phukuta Kuala, who had come to welcome him, as well as Yvon Yanga and Valery Ilunga. The group was reportedly transferred to the premises of DEMIAP, the military intelligence service.

The circumstances and reasons surrounding the arrests remain unclear. The AFDC-A has called for the immediate release of the detained officials, insisting that they have no dispute with any authority.
