By Sarah Ndaya2 min readFrançais

NIAMEY, Niger-In a major socio-economic move, President Tiani announced on Saturday, October 25, a historic 39.78% increase in the Guaranteed Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMIG), raising it from 30,047 to 42,000 CFA Francs. The government framed this decision as a direct response to social partners' demands and a crucial step to improve workers' purchasing power.

This significant wage hike is strategically designed to bolster domestic consumption, reinforce social cohesion, and demonstrate the government's commitment to tangible economic improvements for its citizens amidst the ongoing "conquest of economic sovereignty."
