Wazalendo Leader and Brother Killed in Byangama Clashes

SHABUNDA March 1, 2026 - Violent clashes erupted in the village of Byangama, Bamukuba Sud area, between two factions of the Wazalendo militia, resulting in the deaths of Ufamando, a local Wazalendo leader, and his brother, Constantin. Local sources report that the fighting involved Ufamando’s men attacking the forces led by the self-proclaimed General Muswahili. Their bodies were found in the forest the following day. Several others were injured and evacuated to Shabunda Centre for medical treatment. The clashes sparked panic among residents, highlighting ongoing tensions over control of the region.
