Wazalendo Forces Enter Uvira After M23 Withdrawal, Humanitarian Concerns Persist
Uvira, South Kivu - December 19, 2025 - Following the recent withdrawal of AFC/M23 rebels, Wazalendo forces are now confirmed to be present in the city of Uvira, according to National Deputy Willy Mishiki, a prominent pro-government leader.
In an interview broadcast on Télé 50, Mishiki stated that his forces are awaiting the arrival of the FARDC, Congolese National Police (PNC), and civilian administrators to fully secure the city.
“I can assure you that the Wazalendo are already in Uvira. We are now awaiting the arrival of the FARDC, the PNC, and the restoration of civilian administration. I can also confirm that these groups have left the city,” Mishiki said.
The announcement has sparked controversy, with the Congolese government cautioning that the statement could be manipulated by M23. Meanwhile, NGOs, including Doctors Without Borders, report abuses against civilians by Wazalendo fighters allied with the FARDC, highlighting ongoing security and humanitarian concerns despite the rebel withdrawal.
