Washington - The United States and the European Union reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and economic growth in the Great Lakes region on Thursday, December 4, 2025, placing the Lobito Corridor at the heart of their strategy.

This major project aims to connect the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the Angolan port of Lobito. In a joint statement, Washington and Brussels emphasized that this strategic infrastructure will enhance regional connectivity, secure supply chains for critical minerals, and stimulate sustainable investment, while opening new trade opportunities between Central Africa, the United States, and Europe.

The two partners welcomed the progress in discussions between the Congolese private sector and the government, and expressed their willingness to explore financing options to synchronize the work with ongoing projects in Angola, maximizing the economic and geopolitical impact of the corridor, which they described as an essential catalyst for regional development.
