UN and Niamey Launch Tree-Planting Initiative to Promote Environmental Sustainability
Niamey, Niger - As part of the United Nations’ 80th anniversary celebrations, the UN System in Niger and the City of Niamey co-hosted a symbolic tree-planting ceremony at CEG 11 secondary school on Tuesday, October 29, 2025.
The event was led by UN Resident Coordinator in Niger, Ms. Mama Keita, and the Secretary-General of the City of Niamey, Dr. Moumouni Goungoubane. Representatives from accredited international organizations, UN agency heads, and local authorities and community figures also participated.
The initiative aimed to foster environmental resilience, combat desertification, and educate younger generations about sustainable practices. Organizers emphasized that the ceremony went beyond symbolism, representing a shared commitment to aligning global environmental goals with local action.
