UK Imposes Visa Restrictions on DRC Over Migrant Repatriation

LONDON / KINSHASA - December 28, 2025 - The United Kingdom has imposed visa restrictions on citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after the country failed to implement measures to repatriate illegal immigrants and other individuals wanted by UK authorities.

According to the UK government, the DRC did not comply with new asylum rules announced in November 2025. As a result, DRC citizens will no longer have access to fast-track visa services, and dignitaries and politicians from the DRC will no longer receive special entry privileges previously reserved for state leaders.

The UK also reported that Angola and Namibia have agreed to increase efforts to repatriate their citizens, following warnings that non-compliance could lead to similar sanctions. Countries that fail to adhere to the new rules risk denial of visas for their citizens.

Under the new UK measures, asylum seekers will be granted temporary rather than long-term residence, and support for accommodation will be removed. A new entry system limits the number of people who can enter the UK through this route. The UK government had previously warned that countries refusing to accept their nationals could face punitive actions.
