Two Terrorists Killed While Extorting Farmers in Central Mali
MALI - On October 1, Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) troops intercepted two armed extremists who were collecting illegal “rakat” payments - a form of extortion disguised as religious taxation - from local farmers.
According to military sources, the encounter escalated into an exchange of fire when the suspects attempted to flee. Both were swiftly neutralized by the patrol unit. Soldiers recovered two AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle at the scene.
In a statement, the General Staff commended the professionalism and vigilance of the troops involved, describing the operation as part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist financing networks that exploit rural communities under the guise of religious authority.
