Trump Signs Executive Order Banning Entry for Nationals of ESA Countries

Washington, December 17, 2025 - Former U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order prohibiting entry to the United States for nationals of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, citing national security concerns. Partial restrictions also apply to Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, effective January 1, 2026.

The measure could disrupt travel, education, and economic exchanges and strain diplomatic relations. While it reinforces the sovereignty narrative of ESA countries in response to perceived Western interference, analysts warn it could isolate diasporas and worsen socio-economic vulnerabilities if alternative migration pathways are not strengthened.
