South Kivu: the continuing deterioration of the Bukavu-Goma road is causing concern among users

Par Sarah Ndaya2 min de lectureEnglish

The section of the Bukavu-Goma road near the village of Tchofi, in the Kalehe territory (South Kivu), remains severely damaged due to heavy rains and landslides, making it difficult, if not impossible, for vehicles and motorcycles to travel on it. The Kalinga River has burst its banks and threatens to cut off the road, isolating the towns of Tchofi and Nyabibwe and disrupting socio-economic activities.

Residents are calling on the authorities to intervene quickly with heavy machinery, as the promises of rehabilitation made in June 2025 by AFC-M23 rebel leaders have not yet been fulfilled. This situation is compounded by recurrent armed conflict, exacerbating access difficulties and the precarious situation of local populations.
