South Kivu: Bukavu-Miti-Hombo Road Blocked After Clashes Between M23 and Wazalendo

Kabare Territory, November 17, 2025. Traffic on the Bukavu-Miti-Hombo road was completely paralyzed on Monday after violent clashes erupted between AFC/M23 rebels and Wazalendo fighters in South Kivu’s Kabare territory.

The confrontation, marked by the use of heavy and light weapons, forced motorcycle taxi drivers and other road users to turn back, severely disrupting local economic activity and isolating several communities.

According to local sources, the M23 was attempting to secure access routes toward villages under Wazalendo control, particularly Kalonge and Bunyakiri.

These incidents come shortly after FARDC spokesperson Major General Sylvain Ekenge issued a warning against any rebel advance. They also follow the recent fall of Maimingi 1 and 2, two villages in the Shabunda territory captured by the M23.
